For Instructional Design & Development Students
EDIT 6150 "Studio Prep" - Introduction to Web-based Multimedia Development (Listed in the UGA catalog as "Introduction to Computers for Teachers")
This summer class is an adaptation of EDIT 6150 specifically for the Gwinnett-based IDD program. The class features introductory learning in development tools such as Dreamweaver and Fireworks/Photoshop that will be integral to participation in the "Studio" curriculum (The Studio classes start with EDIT 6190 in the fall). While this class is intended to give incoming students a baseline of technology experience, it can also be adapted to meet the needs of students coming in to the IDD program with more advanced skills.
NOTE: There are other sections of EDIT 6150 offered in the summer; be sure to check with your advisor about which instructor name and call number are correct for your program.
EDIT 6100 Introduction to Instructional Technology
This class surveys a broad range of foundational concepts, issues, and trends in the field of instructional technology. Topics include major philosophical perspectives in learning and instruction, history of the field, instructional design, technology trends, critical issues and future directions. After an initial face-to-face meeting, the class meets online using virtual classroom and course management technologies.
EDIT 6210 Learning Environments Design II
This class is the culminating course in the masters IDD curriculum and in the Studio specifically. The Studio consists of three courses (EDIT 6190 Design & Development Tools, EDIT 6200 Learning Environments Design I, EDIT 6210 Learning Environments Design II) that meet in combination and form an active learning community. In EDIT 6210 students work together in teams to design and develop an authentic set of learning modules for a real-world client. Projects created by EDIT 6210 teams are being used by learners in many local, statewide, and national contexts, including clients such as the American Camp Association, the UGA statewide agricultural extension service, and the Illinois Virtual High School. EDIT 6210 meets face-to-face as part of the wider Studio learning community.

For School Library Media Students
EDIT 6170E Introduction to Instructional Design
This class introduces participants to a specialized approach to designing and developing instruction. This approach is known by many names, including the systematic design of instruction, or instructional systems design, or instructional development; we use what is probably the most common term, simply "instructional design". The major components of instructional development models are presented, and techniques are presented for the broad phases of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation of a replicable instructional package (these phases are commonly referred to as the ADDIE framework). Applicability of this process to instruction in the school media center is addressed. After an initial face-to-face meeting, the class meets online using virtual classroom and course management technologies.
EDIT 6320E Information Technology
This class is one of the introductory courses in the School Library Media cohort sequence. Topics include the nature of information technology, relation of instructional technology to information technology, new technology tools and trends, effective utilization, integration, and management of technology tools within the school curriculum, with emphasis on planning, needs assessment, and organizational structure. After an initial face-to-face meeting, the class meets online using virtual classroom and course management technologies.
EDIT 6400E Emerging Approaches in Teaching, Learning, and Technology
This class focuses on paradigms and models of teaching, learning, and performing, and the ways technological environments can be designed to support these approaches. We explore the theoretical and research foundations of these approaches as well as varied uses of technology. After an initial face-to-face meeting, the class meets online using virtual classroom and course management technologies.
EDIT 7320 Research in School Media Services
This class helps students identify contemporary problems in the field of school media services around which to design appropriate research studies. The EDIT 7320 course is the first of the three-course research sequence for Educational Specialist students in the SLM area (the remaining courses in this sequence are EDIT 7340 and EDIT 7650). Emphasis is placed on the literature review process and identifying a researchable problem. The class meets in the summer using a combination of face-to-face meetings and independent project work.
EDIT 7650 Applied Project in Instructional Technology
This is the final class in the research sequence for Educational Specialist students in the SLM program. The class meets using a combination of face-to-face meetings and independent project work.
